Bmw Cars came into existence as a separate business following a restructuring of the company manufacturing aircraft engines Motorenwerke Rapp in 1917. After the end of World War I in 1918, BMW was forced to cease production of aircraft engines in terms of the Versailles Armistice Treaty [2]. The company therefore went into motorcycle production in 1923 once the restrictions of the treaty began to be lifted [3], followed by cars from 1928 to 1929.
